Arcadia book 2 and WIP

So, I heard this week that my publisher, Pocket, is closer to firming up a release date for book 2, and I’m super happy about where that date is on the 2012 calendar; keep your fingers crossed for me that it sticks. And there’s also a title. *throws confetti* I’m quite pleased with it and will post here when it’s official.

In other book related news that I can only tease you about, I’m making headway into a YA manuscript that might very well be the best thing I’ve written. But, hey: writers always love the current project they’re working on. So we’ll see. But I’m back to pantsing instead of plotting, and that’s opened up a spontaneous creative vibe in me that I’m really digging.

More to come soon . . .

Bits of non-news

I’ve been kinda quiet online. If you wonder what I’ve been up to (and you do, don’t you?), I’ve been outlining a young adult proposal that I just started writing a couple of days ago. I’ve also been reading quite a bit of YA. Mostly dark fantasy/urban fantasy, but some YA romance, too. Sometimes I find that I enjoy YA more than adult. As a whole, I tend to be more engrossed in the stories and stumble upon more books that I just can’t put down. I wonder why that is?

Regarding my own book, RUN DEVIL RUN, it’s probably going to have a new and more fantasy-fabulous title from the publisher. “Devil” might scare off people who are sensitive to that word…like small children or the elderly. Maybe even mountain folk who battle daily fears of the devil coming to get them. If this is a legitimate concern in your own life, you should know that my book is not really about the devil. It’s about a girl who’s good at trapping demons; she uses her magical abilities to solve a mystery involving her on-the-run family. The word “devil” is actually a slur in my protagonist’s world. Are you relieved? Good. My agent and I have spent many hours brainstorming new less-devilish titles that will please the masses. I’m now waiting for the official word on that from Pocket Books and also waiting for edits back from my editor, and I believe somewhere someone is creating cover art for it.

So there you go: the life of a busy author.
