SUMMONING THE NIGHT: Release Day and Blog Tour

It’s officially out in the wild, folks! You can now go to your favorite retailer and purchase SUMMONING THE NIGHT, whether that be online or in a good, old-fashioned brick-and-mortar store.

I worked hard on this book, and I’m damn proud of it. You’ll meet new characters, discover old characters in a different light, and, of course, spend some quality time with Cady, Lon, and Jupe.

I’ve seen a few authors instructing their readers exactly how and where to buy their stuff to maximize sales. But from my view, wherever the heck you want to buy it is a good place. And if you’re broke, there are tons of opportunities to win a copy online over the next few weeks. Or there’s the library. Who doesn’t love libraries?

BLOG TOUR

I’ll be hopping around online, doing interviews and guest blogs and chats, many of them with giveways. Here’s a partial list of some places you can find me over the next week. (Will update with links as they go live, and add more blog stops happening the following week, so check back in.)

Guest Blog and Giveaway

Cady is NOT a wizard . . . not that there’s, umm, anything wrong with that.

Check out my post about the word “magician,” and why I chose to use it instead of “witch” or “mage” or “wizard” or “sorcerer of the dark arts” in the Arcadia Bell series. It’s here on the French book site Between Dreams and Reality, in both English and French translations. Also: you can enter to win a copy of KINDLING or SUMMONING—your choice. International giveaway.

Tease-y Tidbits

I might look cute, but I've probably just done something evil behind your back.

You might’ve noticed things are looking different around here. I’ve been redecorating: what do you think? Haven’t worked out all the kinks yet, so excuse the mess. And don’t even try to view the site on a mobile device. It looks like butt.

Next week I’ll be posting some links to guest blogs & contests, and I’ll even be running one of my own, right here on the blog. I’ve got author copies of SUMMONING THE NIGHT, and I’ll be giving away 5  of them: signed & personalized. So check back.

This isn’t really big news to you, but it is to me: you’ll be able to buy SUMMONING in Walmart. I’m assuming it won’t be EVERY Walmart—just the ones with big book sections. But still. Kind of cool.

And, lastly, for those who haven’t heard, not only will you be getting Arcadia 2 this year (only 3 weeks away until SUMMONING releases!), you’ll be getting Arcadia 2.5 on Christmas day! That’s right: you can give yourself a stocking stuffer & order it for your favorite eReader. Now you’ll have something to look forward to while the rest of your family sleeps off the ginormous holiday meal. When I have the preorder links, I’ll post them. I think my publisher will be publishing it for the low, low price of $1.99. I’ve posted a few early details in the BOOKS section at the bottom of the page.

Harry Potter, Vampire Wire, and Tambuku Playlist

Narcissa Malfoy has Arcadia Bell hair. . . . Maybe this is what Cady will look like in twenty years?

Happy Friday! Tonight I’ll be lining up for the final Harry Potter movie. I’m prepared to shed a few tears; I’m sure I won’t be the only one. Sure, all the talk in the news about this signaling the end of an era is dramatic, but come on—it really has been a phenomenal, utterly wonderful thing, hasn’t it?

Speaking of Harry, I live in a backwards  conservative town near Atlanta that made the news a few years back when a stupid concerned citizen tried to have Harry banned from schools and libraries. Do you remember this story? The citizen, a wayward mother with too much time on her hands, claimed that the books attempted to “indoctrinate children in witchcraft.” I wonder if she still lives here?

Luna Lovegood and her fabulous Spectrespecs. Le sigh!

Keep in mind that this is also the place where some nutjob shot Larry Flynt near the courthouse when he was being tried for breaking obscenity laws by publishing Hustler—the shooting that put him in the wheelchair.

My husband and I discovered both of these classy facts after we moved here. It gets worse, actually, but that’s a post for another day . . .

Yes, that's the Nox symbol in the corner: certified Earthbound-friendly!

Switching gears . . . in case you missed it, Marta Acosta, the writer of the wickedly funny Casa Dracula series, generously had me on her Vampire Wire blog this week for a Q&A. We discussed all things funny, my former life as a book buyer, and the joys of writing a cool fictional bar. On and there’s a giveaway of my book tied to that Q&A, so go and comment if you’d like to enter.

Did you see the playlist for Tambuku Tiki Lounge in the EXTRAS! section? It’s full of laid-back exotica lounge tunes that Cady would definitely play in the bar.

Some other goodies are coming to the EXTRAS! section, so stay tuned.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

New Giveaway and Tour of Morella

I’ve written a nifty short-short story for the Dark Faerie Tales/All Things Urban Fantasy month-long “Deadly Destinations” blog event. It’s a sneaky tour of Morella, California, the coastal city where Arcadia lives and works. Timewise, I suppose it takes place before the events of KINDLING THE MOON, and it’s structured a bit like a script. Regardless, you can read it here on Dark Faerie Tales. And while you’re there, scoot on down to the comments below the post and say hello to add yourself into the giveaway. My publisher is offering up three books, so you’ve got three chances to win! What’s better than free books? Not much.

However, if you are fantastically rich and don’t need free books—or if you’ve just got a big heart—remember that a signed copy of KINDLING THE MOON is being auctioned off here with a lot of other cool things from other authors in the Romance Relief Auction. Proceeds go to support urban fantasy author LA Banks, who is currently hospitalized with cancer. She’s an incredible lady who’s touched a lot of people’s lives, so please take a minute to bid on something in this auction and help.
