A Few Updates

Egads! I’m in a race against time to finish my current manuscript, so I’ve been lax about blogging. Only so many words I can crank out in one day, unfortunately.  Good news is, for those of you who’ve volunteered to beta read for me, I’ll be emailing you in a couple of weeks with a first draft of the historical paranormal romance. I’m rather pleased with it so far. Okay, okay—I absolutely freakin’ love it, but verdict’s out whether you will . . . *cue dramatic music*

Once I’m finished, I’ll be heading straight into writing BINDING THE SHADOWS—Arcadia 3. I’m super, SUPER excited about writing this one, as it’s all plotted and will be a major game changer for Cady. Immediately upon finishing that, I’ll be writing the Arcadia short, which is tentatively scheduled to drop this winter. So I’ve got my hands full for the next few months.

On top of all that, I’m also getting ready to launch a new website design and creating artwork for a new set of Arcadia trading cards.

Next month I’ll start gearing up for a SUMMONING THE NIGHT blog tour. If you’re a book blogger and would like to be added as a tour stop (interviews/guest blogs/giveaways/eARC review) please use the contact form on my site or shoot me an email: jenn at jennbennett dot net. I’ve already booked quite a few dates in late April, but have some slots open in early May. I’ve already got a handful of guest blogs and interview questions piling up in my inbox.

Whew! Just thinking about all of this is making me exhausted. So I’ll leave you with a 34 second commercial starring three men who can join my male harem any flippin’ day: Adrien Brody, Gael García Bernal, and André 3000. Because, as I keep telling you, MUSTACHES ARE COOL. Point proven:

  1. Excellent! I am so ready for some quality historical paranormal romance. If we could fit a few more syllables in there I would be even more ready, but I’m still poised for action:)

  2. There is a serious dearth of Historical PNR! I can’t wait! Does it have a publisher already? (I should probably know that already but keeping track of everyone gets hairy).

Also can’t wait to see the trading cards… in my hands! :P

  3. Is there a lot of historical PNR? God, I hope not *too* much, because I haven’t sold this yet, LOL! ;) The trading cards are going to be little art nouveau. I’m rather excited about them. Whee! :-D

  4. There’s not much. Most of it centers on vampires though. Colleen Gleason had a series last year that was alright. I think I have the first books in a couple of other HPNR series but haven’t read them. Trying to remember which ones… I want to say the Shadow Guard series by Kim Lennox and a couple of wolf ones by Susan Krinard.

I have to admit I don’t like Regencies. I can tolerate them but wouldn’t pick them first. I have a secret obsession with Ancient Civ. Watching Spartacus on Friday nights is geek food for my soul. lol Gah now I’m even more curious about this one. Need more detes Jenn!

I looove using the word dearth BTW.

    1. A scarce supply; a lack
    2. Shortage of food; famine.

Is it bad I’m one of those people who learns a new word and look for ANY opportunity to use it. I could be at the Dr.’s office and be like ‘I’ve had a dearth of my previous symptoms can we lower my meds now?’ It’s embarrassing. :P

And… I have a serious crush on Adrien Brody. I tend to find men with interesting noses or ears particularly sexy. ;) Plus he’s always so well dressed and he’s so talented. When I saw that the other day I was like ‘damn, if only my poor hubs could grow decent facial hair’. Not that Andre and Gael aren’t working it too, I just adore Adrien.

Art Nouveau! Ah! You’re speaking my language. I had such a thing for Mucha’s stuff when I was a kid. My mum had a tin with a zodiac one (http://s-i-net-1.staticish.com/sites/default/files/images/zodiac-mucha.jpg) on it that I was mad for. If I ever get ’round to getting tattoed I’ll likely end up with something in that vein. :)

  5. Oh, if you could hear me laughing right now. I’d just read a post about Firelight, another historical PNR, before I saw your comment. So my brain read you as saying WEALTH, not DEARTH. And then my brain went, “OH GOD! Am I too late? Is there some secret cache of historical PNR out there???” D’oh! Never mind me. I mean, I just use words for a living . . . *snort*

So, yay on the lack of it, natch!

My editor mentioned the Susan Krinard series when I told him what I was writing . . . because mine is 1920s, and apparently hers was, too? However, the paranormal element in mine is ghosts/spirits/magic & people with unusual abilities. Understated. No were or vamp or any supernatural creatures that want to be your friends. Zip. Zero. The characters are all human.

I’m okay w/regency HR, but I like other time periods better. I’m with you on ancient civilization stories. I haven’t watched Spartacus, and I don’t know why. I need to rectify that.

Mucha: Bingo! And I LOVE that zodiac girl. One of my faves. In fact, here’s a photo of something inside my office, hanging above my pinboard (wooden tray, was also my mother’s, so we are twins!): http://www.jennbennett.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/photo-19-e1330670195220.jpg
